Heard up North: After the Winds, Still Without Power in Johnsburg

The Red Cross set up four shelters this weekend to handle displaced residents still without power. Two remain open - one in Glens Falls and another in Johnsburg. About 300 people have used the shelters (that includes people who just came in for coffee, and people who stayed the night). But that's far fewer than those affected by the storm. Cheif Steve Studnicki of Johnsburg Fire Department checked in with the shelter this afternoon.  Go to full article

Hundreds in North Country Without Power Seek Shelter

Parts of the north country are still without power this morning, following Friday's powerful windstorm. At least two people died in the gale. National Grid says about 30,000 of its customers are still without power, most of them in rural parts of eastern New York. At the peak of the storm, more than 325,000 utility customers across New York state lost power. Parts of Moriah, Westport, and Saratoga Springs were still without electricity yesterday, braving single-digit temperatures. Snow Returns to the North Country

The view outside Jim Carroll's living room window in Tupper Lake changed overnight. Carroll helps the state tourism office keep track of fall foliage in the northern Adirondacks. He joins us from time to time during the 8 O'Clock Hour for a chat about the weather.
