Jul 05, 2016 — North Country congresswoman Elise Stefanik is saying much more explicitly that she will support Donald Trump in the presidential election. Stefanik, a Republican, made the statement on a program on WATN radio in Watertown.
"I believe that Hillary Clinton is the wrong direction for this country," Stefanik said, "and I believe that Mr. Trump has tapped into a frustration of not being heard. Given the choice in this election between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump in this election, I will support Donald Trump this November."
Trump polled well in the North Country in this summer's Republican primary but has continued to spark controversy— most recently with a tweet that critics have described as anti-Semitic.
Stefanik faces Democrat Mike Derrick and Green Party candidate Matt Funiciello in this year's House race.
